Video: First Hawaiian female to throw a TDSee the 5-foot-6 sophomore make history.Alexandria Buchanan is not your average high school varsity quarterback. She's a girl — with a rocket arm.
The 5-foot-6 sophomore made Hawaii history Saturday night after becoming the first female to toss a touchdown pass,
according to KHON2 News.The
McKinley (Honolulu) gunslinger calmly stepped back and rifled a 16-yard TD to
Ace Asis in the first half.
She's also believed to be the first female to start at quarterback in a Hawaii varsity football game. Her TD strike made ESPN's SportsCenter Top 10.
"It's all pretty crazy," Buchanan said. "I still can't believe it sometimes. All this support I've been getting; not only from my family and friends, but complete strangers. It's truly unbelievable and means so much."
She posted 135 passing yards and the one TD in the Tigers' nail-biting 27-26 loss to Kalaheo (Hawaii). But it was still remarkable to see the poise and success from her first varsity game.
