In Thursday's non-league test, the McDowell Titans (Marion, NC) basketball squad knocked off the host Avery County Vikings (Newland, NC), by a score of 76-65.

Next, the Titans encounter the South Caldwell Spartans (Hudson, NC) in a non-league test, on Friday, January 3. McDowell will attempt to improve on its 10-1 season record. The Spartans come into the test with a 9-3 record after their 89-75 non-league loss to Hickory (Hickory, NC).

The Vikings (8-4) will now prepare for their test against Mountain Heritage (Burnsville, NC). The Cougars come into the 1A/2A Western Highlands test with a 8-2 record. In their last test, Mountain Heritage was knocked off by Owen (Black Mountain, NC), 71-64, in a league test.
