In Saturday's non-league outing, the South Pontotoc Cougars (Pontotoc, MS) basketball squad edged the host Walnut Wildcats (Walnut, MS), by a margin of 34-33.

The Cougars (16-7) will now prepare for their outing against Ripley (Ripley, MS). The Tigers go into the 4A Region 2 outing with a 8-8 record. In their last outing, Ripley held off Houston (Houston, MS), 65-63, in a league outing.

The Wildcats now own a 12-9 record. They play next when they host Pine Grove for a 2A Region 1 outing on Tuesday, January 24. Walnut will clash with a Panthers squad coming off a 56-47 league loss to East Union (Blue Springs, MS). The Panthers record now stands at 2-17.
