Match Summary
In a test in inner wills in the conference semi-final match, West Johnston defeated cross county rival South Johnston tonight in a scintillating 5 set affair (the 4th match in a row for West that has gone to 5 sets). After edging the Lady Trojans in a tight 1st set (25 -23), South was able to will its way to a 29 - 31 second set victory (this one set alone took 35 minutes to play), which could have been deflating to the Lady Wildcats. South then went on to win the 3rd set 18 - 25 and seemed poised to post its third victory this season over West. However, the Wildcats fought through the 4th (especially after giving up a 22 - 14 lead) and won a 26 - 24 decision. That left the deciding 5th set to be played. Playing consecutive nights to 5 sets didn't seem to hamper these resilient girls from West, who somehow made enough plays to prevail in this back & forth finale, edging the Lady Trojans 16 - 14. Next up is Wilson Hunt tomorrow in Wilson to determine conference tourney champion.
