Ohio High School Football - Loveland knocked off by Anderson
October 25, 2024: Loveland, OH 45140 In Friday's league test, the Anderson Raptors (Cincinnati, OH) football squad ran past the host Loveland Tigers (Loveland, OH), by a count of 49-23.
The Raptors now hold a 10-0 record.
With the defeat, Loveland drops to 3-7 on the campaign.
First Quarter
Loveland opened the game with the ball, but the Tigers were quickly forced to punt just a minute into the game. A long pass from Justice Burnam to senior Caden Piening put the Raptors in scoring position at the Loveland 11, and with 9:40 left in the first quarter, Durrell Turner ran six yards for an Anderson touchdown. The passing two-point conversion was no good, but the Raptors led 6-0. The following drive ended in no points for the Tigers, and with 4:42 remaining, Turner rushed for his second touchdown of the night, this time from five yards out. The two-point try was no good and Anderson extended its lead to 12. With 1:38 to go, Loveland's Brady Stidham knocked a 31-yard field goal through the uprights to cut the lead to nine at 12-6, but the Raptors were able to answer on their next drive. On the last play of the quarter, Turner ran for a five-yard touchdown, his third of the night. Turner than rushed again on a successful two-point conversion to put Anderson ahead 20-3.
Second Quarter
The Tigers began the second quarter with possession, but the Raptor defense forced another punt early into the quarter. A long run by Justice Burnam put the Raptors deep inside Loveland territory, and with 9:28 to go until halftime, Burnam connected with senior receiver Trace Jallick on a 29-yard touchdown. Turner converted the two-point try to extend Anderson's lead to 28-3. After the Tigers turned the ball over on downs, Burnam then found Aiden McClanahan from two yards away for yet another Raptors touchdown. Lucas Callahan made the extra point to put Anderson up 35-3 with 3:40 left. Loveland's next drive resulted in another punt, and the Raptors got the ball back with less than a minute to go. Fortunately, Anderson was able to capitalize as Burnam hooked up with McClanahan (their second connection of the night) on o a 7-yard touchdown pass with seven seconds remaining in the half. Callahan made the PAT and the Raptors entered halftime leading 42-7.
Third Quarter
The third quarter opened with a running clock and Anderson ball, and the Raptor momentum continued into the second half. 1:30 into the quarter, Burnam threw a 69-yard touchdown pass to Jallick and Callahan's PAT was good to make it a 49-3 ballgame. An Anderson fumble set Loveland up in prime scoring position, and the Tigers took advantage when senior quarterback Tyler Roberts scrambled for a two-yard touchdown to cut the Raptor lead. Stidham's extra point try was no good, but the deficit was cut to 40 with 2:48 to go in the quarter. Late in the third, Burnam once again connected with Jallick on a long pass to move the ball across midfield, and Anderson entered the fourth quarter in scoring position and with a 49-9 lead.
Fourth Quarter
The Raptors began the fourth quarter by turning the ball over on downs, and the Tigers capitalized quickly when Roberts connected with Jewel Vorbroker for a long, 73-yard Loveland touchdown. Stidham made the PAT to cut the lead to 33 at 49-16. Anderson quarterback Owen Scalf found senior Nick Martin on a long pass on the ensuing drive, but the series ended abruptly when Lucas Callahan missed a field goal. After a long Vorbroker run put the ball in Raptor territory, Roberts found senior Adam Lake from 29 yards out for another Tiger score. Stidham's successful extra point made it a 49-23 game with 2:02 remaining. When the final whistles blew, Anderson closed out a 49-23 Week 10 win to go undefeated in the regular season for the first time since 2009.
