Virginia High School Basketball - James Monroe nips Alleghany

December 17, 2022: Covington, VA 24426

James Monroe Mavericks (Lindside, WV) backers were pleased Saturday as they saw their basketball squad hold off the host Alleghany Mountaineers (Covington, VA), 78-71 in a non-league bout.

With the victory, James Monroe upgrades its record to 5-0 on the campaign. The Mavericks host Montcalm (Montcalm, WV) to play the Generals in a Coalfield A bout on Tuesday, December 20. The Generals come into the bout with a record of 5-1. Montcalm won 56-41 in their recent non-league bout against Sherman (Seth, WV)

Next up, the Mountaineers play the Rockbridge County Wildcats (Lexington, VA) in a non-league bout, on Monday, December 19. Alleghany will attempt to upgrade on its 3-2 season record. The Wildcats come into the bout with a 0-6 record after their 63-60 non-league loss to Staunton (Staunton, VA).
