The Essex Trojans topped the visiting Mathews Blue Devils basketball team by a final score of 35-25 in Monday's non-league game.

In their next game, the Trojans face the Westmoreland Eagles (Montross, VA) in a Northern Neck game, on Tuesday, February 7. Essex will attempt to move on its 5-8 season record. The Eagles enter the game with a 6-10 record after their 50-38 league win over Colonial Beach (Colonial Beach, VA).
