March 24, 2025: Clermont, FL 34711 East Ridge Knights (Clermont, FL) followers went home pleased Monday as they saw their flag football team gain a win over the visiting Leesburg Yellow Jackets (Leesburg, FL), 20-0 in a non-league battle.
With the win, East Ridge advances its record to 6-2 on the season. The Knights travel to Mount Dora (Mount Dora, FL) to play the Hurricanes in a non-league battle on Tuesday, March 25. The Hurricanes go into the battle with a record of 5-2. Mount Dora lost 26-0 in their recent non-league battle against Lake Minneola (Minneola, FL)
The Yellow Jackets now own a 0-4 record. They play next when they travel to Lake Minneola for a non-league battle on Wednesday, March 26. Leesburg will play a Hawks team coming off a 26-0 non-league win over Mount Dora (Mount Dora, FL). The Hawks record now stands at 7-0.
First Quarter
East Ridge started with possession and went 55 yards and stalled at the eleven after pass caught by Tina Feliciano from second and goal from the fifteen was called back from the one yard line for inadvertent flag guarding. The coach can only blame himself for failing to install proper running with the ball skills. The Yellow Jackets started with the ball at the eleven and got pushed back by a fumble. Two plays later junior rusher Amirah Newton sacked the QB in the end zone for the safety. Senior punter Fabiola Casas landed the ball near the 20 and the defense stopped Leesburg at the thirty. Two plays later Senior quarterback Marissa Estrada linked up with senior wide receiver Kourtnei Locke over the middle and Kourtnei broke the field and dashed into the end zone; the PAT failed..
Second Quarter
The Knights first possession of the second quarter netted forty two yards on passes to senior receiver Kylee Beddome (22 yards and a first down) and to Junior receiver Naomi Camacho (20 yards and a first down). Then East Ridge ran out of gas in four downs from the nineteen. The Knight defense stopped Leesburg and gave the offense another shot at the end zone with good field position. Junior running back Scarlet Barahona ran fifteen yards and a first down to the thirteen, and the offense stalled again. The defense quickly restored possession to the offense at the ten yard line, and after a penalty put the Knights on the twenty, Estrada found Locke open over the middle for a twenty yard touchdown (the PAT failed - we can't automatically go to center Giulianna Casas every time, people are ready for that these days).
Third Quarter
The East Ridge Knights had two possessions in the third quarter. The first resulted in a sack, a penalty, and three incomplete passes that saw the offense backsliding from first and goal at the twenty to turnover on downs at the 29.
The Knight defense held the line. The offense resumed possession on the 34 yard line, and on third and fourteen Senior Quarterback Fabiola Zapata hit Kourtnei Locke deep behind the Leesburg secondary for her hat trick touchdown.
The referees ended the game at that point without giving Leesburg a chance to get more playing time or for the Knight reserves to get their cleats dirty.
