California High School Volleyball - Sherman Oaks CES over Lake Balboa College Prep
March 26, 2025: Reseda, CA 91335 In Wednesday's non-league challenge, the host Sherman Oaks CES Knights volleyball team scored a 3-0 triumph over the Lake Balboa College Prep Cougars.
The Knights (4-3) will now prepare for their challenge against Valley Academy of Arts & Sciences (Granada Hills, CA). The Vipers come into the Valley challenge with a 9-0 record. In their last challenge, Valley Academy of Arts & Sciences beat Fulton (Van Nuys, CA), 3-0, in a league challenge.
Next, the Cougars play the Magnolia Science Academy Reseda Warriors (Reseda, CA) in a Central Valley challenge, on Thursday, March 27. Lake Balboa College Prep will attempt to upgrade on its 1-9 season record. The Warriors come into the challenge with a 6-1 record after their 3-0 league win over Alliance Marine-Innovation & Technology (Sun Valley, CA).
Match Summary
In set 1 Lake Balboa came out cold down 0-4. They eventually turned it around to tie at 6 all. At 8 all SOCES opened up a 12-8 lead that they never relinquished. The Cougars close to within 2 points 3 times but never closer. Set 2 started 9-7 Lake with LBCP extending it to 12-11 but again SOCES charged ahead 17-12. The 5 point cushion made it all too easy for the Knights to go 8-8 down the stretch & win again. In set 3 the scores matched at 9 all before the more experienced SOCES team opened up a 13-9 lead. The Lake show roiled the waters to come all the way back at 15 all. The more aggressive Knights again opened up some daylight 18-15 & then broke out to a seemingly insurmountable 22-17 lead. The Knights were poised for the knockout at 24-19 before the teal & black had their Popeye moment. "That's all I can stands & I can't stands no more!" 5 times the Cougars held off match point to bring it all the way back to 24 all. SOCES finally scored the last 2 points to seal the deal.
