April 28, 2025: Los Angeles, CA 90019 Los Angeles Romans (Los Angeles, CA) boosters left the game thrilled Monday as they saw their volleyball squad achieve victory over the visiting Lake Balboa College Prep Cougars (Lake Balboa, CA), 3-0 in a non-league test.
With the win, Los Angeles improves its record to 12-12 on the season.
The Cougars now own a 2-16 record. They put it on the line next when they travel to Magnolia Science Academy 5 for a non-league test on Wednesday, April 30. Lake Balboa College Prep will encounter a Lobos squad coming off a 3-0 non-league win over Magnolia Science Academy Venice (Los Angeles, CA). The Lobos record now stands at 4-3.
Match Summary
Lake Balboa was actually leading in the early going 3-2 in set 1. Los Angeles claimed the lead at 5-4 & never looked back. At 12-5 the Cougars had no reply to the Roman offense. 13-11 sideout ball put the set away for LA. A dispirited LBCP team was quickly down 1-6 opening set 2. They closed at 4-6. LA hit the turbos & cranked it up to 11-4. Again a 7 point lead. It was 18-5 LA in the very next rotation. Another 7 point shellacking in the Romans last rotation finished the laugher. The comedy quickly turned into tragedy in the last set for Lake Balboa. Again a tiny lead for the teal & black at 3-2 then a 5 point tear by the Romans to lead 7-3. The Cougars fought back gamely to tighten the score at 6-8 before the roof collapsed. 9 unanswered points flattened Lake Balboa as they lost their best hitter Michael Galadjian to an injury then their composure with the irregular substitution. Formations & positions were scrambled before a 6-17 deficit. The match ended in the next 2 rotations.
