Preview: Miramonte Matadors vs. Northgate Broncos
The Miramonte Matadors will be playing in front of their home fans against the Northgate Broncos at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the pair posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Miramonte posted their biggest victory since December 12, 2023 on Thursday. They blew past Concord, posting a 60-26 win at home. Given Miramonte's advantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 341st, while Concord is ranked 968th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Karena Eberts continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines, dropping a double-double on 33 points and 14 rebounds. That makes it four consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Miramonte's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Julia Quinn Ferguson, who scored five points along with seven steals and six rebounds.
In what's become a running theme this season, Northgate gave their fans yet another huge victory on Thursday. They claimed a resounding 58-30 win over Las Lomas at home. The win was nothing new for Northgate as they're now sitting on seven straight.
Northgate's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Samantha Myhr, who scored 14 points. Another player making a difference was Hana Neuman, who scored 12 points.
Miramonte is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight contests, which provided a massive bump to their 9-8 record this season. As for Northgate, their victory was their sixth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 14-4.
Monday's matchup is shaping up to be a scrappy game: Miramonte have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 31.5 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Northgate struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 31.7 rebounds per game. Given Miramonte's sizeable advantage in that area, Northgate will need to find a way to close that gap.
Everything went Miramonte's way against Northgate when the teams last played back in January of 2023 as Miramonte made off with a 53-30 victory. Will Miramonte repeat their success, or does Northgate have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
