Vasco Sutton made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he pitched seven innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off nine hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Sutton wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Jace Brindel, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Meanwhile, North Brunswick owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Thursday. They walked away with a 5-0 victory over West Johnston. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Scorpions.
Like Jacksonville, North Brunswick also got a great game from a two-way player: Fisher Goodwin. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run while striking out nine over seven innings pitched. Goodwin also tossed no walks, which is notable because North Brunswick is 2-1 when he allows at most one walk, but 7-15 otherwise. Goodwin was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run and four RBI. That's the most RBI he has posted since back in March.
Jacksonville's win was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-10. Those road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for North Brunswick, their record now sits at 9-16.
Jacksonville beat North Brunswick 9-4 in their previous meeting back in April of 2018. Will the Cardinals repeat their success, or do the Scorpions have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
