Basketball Recap: Florence Christian Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Riley Minton and Taylor Greene

It was a Battle of the Birds when Florence Christian took on Pee Dee Academy on Friday. The Florence Christian Eagles took a 59-46 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Pee Dee Academy Golden Eagles. The result was an unpleasant reminder to the Eagles of the 61-54 defeat they experienced in the pair's previous head-to-head fixture back in February of 2024.

Taylor Greene and Riley Minton certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Greene went 7 for 14 en route to 18 points in addition to six rebounds and three steals, while Minton posted 16 points. The matchup was Greene's 11th in a row with at least ten points. Pierce Boykin also deserves some recognition as he posted his first assist of the season.

Florence Christian's loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Pee Dee Academy, they have been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine contests, which provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season.

Florence Christian wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next game, a 58-30 victory against Thomas Sumter Academy on the 14th. Pee Dee Academy has also already played their next matchup, a 50-20 win against Williamsburg Academy on the 14th.
