Hartsville is a perfect 10-0 against Darlington since April of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Tuesday. The Red Foxes will head out to square off against the Falcons at 6:00 p.m. Hartsville is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10.6 runs per game this season.
Hartsville managed to slip by Camden the last time these teams faced off, but didn't have those same answers this time around. The Red Foxes came up short against the Bulldogs on Monday, falling 9-1. Having soared to a lofty 16 runs in the game before, the Red Foxes couldn't push the score so high this time.
Hartsville saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Jaden Atkinson, who went 1-for-4 with one double.
Darlington never got on the board in their matchup on Tuesday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Wilson on Thursday. They put the hurt on the Tigers with a sharp 11-5 win. Considering the Falcons have won five contests by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.
Kenneth ?KJ? Skipper spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered five earned runs on seven hits and racked up eight Ks. He also tossed a walk, which is notable because Darlington is 2-1 when he allows at most two walks, but 3-7 otherwise.
At the plate, Shane Oliver was incredible, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and three RBI. Those three RBI gave him a new career-high. Chad Rubin also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
Darlington's victory ended a four-game drought on the road and puts them at 5-8. As for Hartsville, they moved to 15-4 with that loss, which also ended their six-game winning streak.
Darlington's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Hartsville hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .385. It's a different story for Darlington, though, as they've only averaged .227. Will they be able to contain Hartsville's hitters?
Everything went Hartsville's way against Darlington when the teams last played back in April of 2024, as Hartsville made off with an 11-1 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Red Foxes since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
