Softball Recap: Shallowater Makes It 12 in a Row at Home

Shallowater hadn't done well against Idalou recently (they were 2-7 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Shallowater's pitcher stepped up to hand Idalou a 10-0 shutout. The Mustangs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by seven runs or more this season.

Gracie Banks made a big impact no matter where she played. She didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, scoring three runs while going 2-for-3. Those three runs gave her a new career-high.

In other batting news, Taylor Jarrett and Brinley Currington did most of the damage at the plate: Jarrett scored two runs while getting on base in all three of her plate appearances, while Currington scored two runs while going 2-for-2. Another player making a difference was Phoenix Navejar, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two RBI.

Shallowater was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .412. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .412 or higher in five consecutive matches.

Shallowater's victory was their 12th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 12-4. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.4 runs over those games. As for Idalou, their loss dropped their record down to 1-11.

Coincidentally, Shallowater and Idalou will both be playing Muleshoe the next time they take the field. Shallowater will head out to face Muleshoe at 5:00 p.m. on Tuesday, while Idalou will head out to face them at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday.
