The Lafayette Hornets waltzed into Thursday's contest with three straight wins but they left with four. They walked away with a 45-36 win over Fort White. Given Lafayette's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 149th, while Fort White is ranked 380th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lafayette was led to victory by Ella Hancock and Jada Copeland. Hancock dropped a double-double on ten points and ten rebounds, while Copeland scored 19 points along with five steals. That makes it three consecutive games in which Copeland has scored at least 25% of Lafayette's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Havyn Richardson, who scored six points along with three steals.
When it comes to explaining why Fort White lost, one person who can't be blamed is Isreal Hart. Despite the final result, she scored 22 points along with nine rebounds. Hart also posted two blocks for the first time this season.
Lafayette's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 4-1. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 52.0 points per game. As for Fort White, they now have a losing record at 2-3.
Lafayette won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Hamilton County at 6:30 p.m. on December 8th. Fort White's road trip will continue as they head out to face Trenton at 6:30 p.m. on December 12th. Hopefully Trenton focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 23 on Friday.
