Maylee Walston was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out seven batters over seven innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in March. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Peyton Hall, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That home run was her first of the season. Mia Hess was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Skyridge was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .424. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Mountain View only posted a batting average of .231.
Meanwhile, Pleasant Grove faced Farmington in a battle between two of the state's top teams last Friday. The Vikings fell 9-4 to the Phoenix. The matchup marked the Vikings' lowest-scoring contest so far this season.
Maile Larsen was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-4 with one home run. The team also got some help courtesy of Allyson Young, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Skyridge's record now sits at 6-8. As for Pleasant Grove, their defeat ended a six-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 8-2.
Tuesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Skyridge hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .373. However, it's not like Pleasant Grove struggles in that department as they've averaged .463. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Skyridge might still be hurting after the 11-5 loss they got from Pleasant Grove when the teams last played back in May of 2024. Can the Falcons avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
