Livia Wiltsie was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out 14 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. Those 14 strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also big at the plate, firing off two home runs, five RBI, and three runs while going 3-for-4.
In other batting news, Ballston Spa let Madelyn Perrone and Ava Boni run wild. Perrone got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI, while Boni went 1-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. That home run was Boni's first of the season. Another player making a difference was Katelyn Weatherwax, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two runs.
Ballston Spa always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .564. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Burnt Hills-Ballston Lake only posted an OBP of .214.
Meanwhile, Shaker waltzed into their match on Wednesday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They never let the Falcons get on the board and left with a 14-0 win. The Bison's hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Hannah Hipwell made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only two hits while striking out 11 over six innings pitched. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't tossed less than five strikeouts in six consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with two doubles, one stolen base, and one run.
In other batting news, Ruby Szemplinski was incredible, firing off two home runs and four RBI while going 2-for-5. Sarah Syden was another key player, getting on base in four of her five plate appearances with two runs, two RBI, and one double.
Shaker's victory bumped their record up to 7-1. As for Ballston Spa, their win bumped their record up to 5-2.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Ballston Spa has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 11.3 hits per game. However, it's not like Shaker struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 4.8 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Ballston Spa came up short against Shaker when the teams last played back in April of 2024, falling 4-0. Will the Scotties have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the action for a full breakdown of the game and more softball content.
