The Thomas Heyward Academy Rebels will challenge the Coastal HomeSchool Hurricanes at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.
Having struggled with five losses in a row, Thomas Heyward Academy turned things around against Beaufort Academy on Wednesday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 14-12 victory over the Eagles.
Colton Young made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out nine batters over four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Young was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing three bases while going 1-for-4.
In other batting news, Mackie Bowers was a standout: he scored a run and stole four bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Those four stolen bases gave him a new career-high. Dodge Peeples was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances.
Thomas Heyward Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, Coastal HomeSchool beat St. Andrew's 13-9 on Tuesday. The Hurricanes haven't had any issues with the Lions recently, as the game was their third consecutive win against them.
Like Thomas Heyward Academy, Coastal HomeSchool also got a great game from a two-way player: J.W. Castongia. On the mound, he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Castongia was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-5. Coastal HomeSchool is undefeated when Castongia posts three or more hits, but 11-14 otherwise.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jace Poppell, who scored three runs and stole a base while going 4-for-5. He has become a key player for Coastal HomeSchool: the team is 8-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 6-13 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Gabe Smith, who scored three runs while going 4-for-5.
Thomas Heyward Academy's victory bumped their record up to 2-6. As for Coastal HomeSchool, the win got them back to even at 14-14.
Thomas Heyward Academy was able to grind out a solid victory over Coastal HomeSchool in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, winning 6-1. Do the Rebels have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Hurricanes turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
