St. Thomas More and St. Joseph are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Cavaliers will take on the Lancers at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. St. Thomas More is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
St. Thomas More gave up the first runs on Wednesday, but they didn't let that get them down. They came out on top against Shoreland Lutheran by a score of 6-2.
Austin Adamczewski was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over six innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off three hits. Adamczewski was also big at the plate, going 1-for-4 with one stolen base and two RBI. Those RBI marked the first that he has brought in this season.
In other pitching news, Evan Weckman looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than two hits in three consecutive appearances.
Back at the plate, the team relied heavily on Carson Weist, who got on base in all four of his plate appearances with one RBI. Brody Alivo was another key player, getting on base in two of his four plate appearances with two runs.
Meanwhile, St. Joseph hadn't done well against Westosha Central recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Wednesday. The Lancers walked away with a 9-6 victory over the Falcons. Winning may never get old, but the Lancers sure are getting used to it with their third in a row.
Like St. Thomas More, St. Joseph also got a great game from a two-way player: Zach Rizzo. He pitched four innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off seven hits. Rizzo was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and three RBI.
In other pitching news, Mason Ballard looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off four hits.
Back at the plate, Dominic Santarelli was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Peter Visconti, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
St. Joseph lost a few balls and finished the game with three home runs. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now launched at least two home runs in three consecutive matches.
St. Joseph pushed their record up to 8-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.5 runs over those games. As for St. Thomas More, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Tuesday as neither team is afraid to steal. St. Thomas More has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like St. Joseph struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 5.3 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
St. Thomas More beat St. Joseph 3-0 in their previous meeting back in May of 2024. Do the Cavaliers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Lancers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
