Last Thursday, Winter Park sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 39-37 win over Lake Nona. Given Winter Park's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 157th, while Lake Nona is ranked 468th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Winter Park's success was spearheaded by the efforts of Auria Mack, who scored 12 points along with four steals, and Sam Childs, who scored 15 points along with six rebounds and three steals. That's the first time this season that Mack grabbed two or more steals. Another player making a difference was Tyler Seay, who scored ten points along with four steals.
Meanwhile, Waynesburg Central was able to grind out a solid victory over Albert Gallatin on Thursday, taking the game 50-39.
Waynesburg Central's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kaley Rohanna, who scored 19 points along with five assists. That makes it six consecutive games in which Rohanna has scored at least 25% of Waynesburg Central's points. Peyton Cowell was another key contributor, scoring seven points along with 12 rebounds.
Winter Park's win bumped their record up to 10-2. As for Waynesburg Central, they pushed their record up to 7-0 with that victory, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season.
Wednesday's contest is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Winter Park have been dynamite from deep this season, having only made 32% of their threes per game. However, it's not like Waynesburg Central struggles in that department as they've made 40.3% of their threes per game this season.
