Baseball Recap: Liberty Has No Trouble Against Coronado

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Liberty). They put the hurt on the Coronado Cougars with a sharp 23-2 win on Thursday. The Lancers have beaten the Cougars the last three times they've met, but they better watch out: this was the closest the Cougars has come to flipping the script.

David Kempf was a standout: he got on base in all five of his plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and four RBI. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in RBI. Jonathan Van Der Merwede was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.

Liberty was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .516. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Coronado only posted a batting average of .357.

The victory got Liberty back to even at 2-2. As for Coronado, they are on a six-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-4.

Coming up, Liberty will head out on the road to take on Palmer Ridge at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Palmer Ridge is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.5 runs per game this season. As for Coronado, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Discovery Canyon at 4:00 p.m.
