Harlan and Brennan are an even 5-5 against one another since November of 2019, but not for long. The Harlan Hawks will head out on the road to take on the Brennan Bears at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both teams are coming into the match red-hot, with Harlan sitting on seven straight victories and Brennan on ten.
Last Saturday, Harlan didn't have too much trouble with Taft on the road as they won 42-26. Given Harlan's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas basketball rankings (they are ranked 107th, while Taft is ranked 719th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ruhama Salyers and Alexa Romero were among the main playmakers for Harlan as the former scored five points along with six steals and the latter scored 12 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Romero has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times she's played. Jaliyah Graham was another key contributor, scoring five points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Brennan strolled past Jay with points to spare on Saturday, taking the game 64-49.
Harlan pushed their record up to 14-8 with that victory, which was their sixth straight on the road. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 56.0 points per game. As for Brennan, their victory bumped their record up to 21-3.
Harlan was taken down by Brennan 59-28 in their previous matchup back in December of 2023. Can Harlan avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
