Lucy Beckham is on a eight-game streak of home wins, while James Island is on a nine-game streak of away wins: one of those streaks is about to end. The Lucy Beckham Bengals will take on the James Island Trojans at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Lucy Beckham never let their opponents score. They simply couldn't be stopped as they easily beat Colleton County 35-0 on the road. Given Lucy Beckham's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina football rankings (they are ranked 30th, while Colleton County is ranked 126th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Lucy Beckham to victory, but perhaps none more so than Charles Byrd, who rushed for 100 yards and two touchdowns on only 12 carries. Chalmers Ballard was another key contributor, throwing for 202 yards and two touchdowns.
Meanwhile, James Island took their match at home on Friday with ease, bagging a 38-0 win over Hilton Head Island.
James Island's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Braxton Scott, who rushed for 34 yards and a touchdown, and also threw for 195 yards and a touchdown on only 14 passes. The team also got some help courtesy of Amontrae Scott, who picked up 98 receiving yards and a touchdown.
James Island's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Leading the way was Malachi Jefferson and his two sacks.
Their wins bumped Lucy Beckham to 8-0 and James Island to 9-0.
Keep an eye on the end zone in Friday's game as both teams haven't had much trouble getting there this season. Lucy Beckham commands a daunting offense this season, having averaged 5.9 touchdowns per game. However, it's not like James Island struggles in that department as they've been averaging 5.4 per game. With these two high-octane teams facing off on Friday, fans should be in for an exciting offensive matchup.
Lucy Beckham might still be hurting after the 33-7 defeat they got from James Island in their previous meeting back in October of 2022. Will Lucy Beckham have more luck at home instead of on the road?
