Riverton and Mountain Ridge are an even 3-3 against one another since August of 2019, but not for long. After each having a week off, the two teams will shake off the rust and duke it out at 4:00 p.m. on Friday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty point totals in their previous games.
Riverton was handed a heart-breaking three-point loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Copper Hills last Friday. The Silverwolves claimed a resounding 47-14 victory over the Grizzlies. That looming 47-14 mark stands out as the most commanding margin for the Silverwolves yet this season.
Riverton relied on the efforts of Rocky Downs, who gained 139 total yards and two touchdowns, and Austin Morris, who threw for 134 yards and three TDs on only ten passes.
Meanwhile, Mountain Ridge faced Westlake in a battle between two of the state's top teams last Friday. The Sentinels came out on top against the Thunder by a score of 35-28. Winning may never get old, but the Sentinels sure are getting used to it with their seventh in a row.
The match pitted two dominant signal callers against one another in Jaxon Hunt and BOSTEN FOUNTAINE. Hunt had a great game and threw for 386 yards and three touchdowns. Meanwhile, FOUNTAINE was balling out in the loss, throwing for 349 yards and three TDs, while also rushing for 69 yards and one score.
One reason for the win was Mountain Ridge's imposing defense, which managed to get into the backfield for three sacks. The team can thank three different players for their defensive prowess: Cutler Whitaker, Jaxon Brown, and Cole Uluave, who each picked up one sack apiece.
Mountain Ridge's win bumped their record up to 8-2. As for Riverton, their victory bumped their record up to 4-5.
The upcoming matchup will be a clash of competing strengths. Riverton has deployed a run-first offense that has averaged 149.6 rushing yards a game. Meanwhile, Mountain Ridge has preferred to attack from the air: they average 333.8 passing yards per game. So which strategy will prevail on Friday? There's only one way to find out.
Riverton might still be hurting after the 41-19 defeat they got from Mountain Ridge in their previous meeting back in September. A big factor in that loss was the dominant performance of the Sentinels' Kohen Cunningham, who picked up 301 receiving yards and four touchdowns. Now that the Silverwolves know the damage he can cause, will they be able to stop him this time? Check MaxPreps.com after the match to find out.
