Bessemer City strolled past Burns with points to spare on Tuesday, taking the game 44-29. That's another feather in the cap for Bessemer City, who also won these teams' last head-to-head.
Leading Bessemer City to victory were Kionna Pettus and Tionna Pettus. Pettus dropped a double-double on 15 points and ten rebounds, while Pettus dropped a double-double on 20 points and 12 rebounds. That makes it seven consecutive games in which Pettus has scored at least a third of Bessemer City's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Imani Rhodes, who scored six points along with nine rebounds.
Burns lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Maggie Earl, who scored two points along with eight rebounds and five steals. Earl has been hot recently, having posted eight or more rebounds the last seven times she's played. Another player making a difference was Kaylee Greene, who scored six points along with three steals.
Bessemer City's win bumped their record up to 7-10. As for Burns, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 6-8.
Bessemer City will look to defend their home court on Friday against Highland Tech at 6:00 p.m. Highland Tech has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last three games. Burns won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Thomas Jefferson at 6:00 p.m. on January 17th. Thomas Jefferson will be looking to keep their four-game home win streak alive.
