Basketball Recap: Laurens Skates Past Emerald with Ease

Laurens posted their biggest victory since December 29, 2023 on Friday. They breezed past the Emerald Vikings to the tune of 81-51. Given the Raiders' advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 29th, while the Vikings are ranked 179th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

It was another big night for Tyj Narrius Jones, who went 6-for-9 en route to 16 points along with eight boards and three steals. He has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last four times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of DJ Dondrevious Martin, who dropped a double-double with ten points and ten assists.

Laurens smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 11 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in seven consecutive matches.

Emerald lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Key Holloway, who went 5-for-8 on his way to 10 points and four steals. What's more, he also posted a 63% shooting accuracy, which is the highest he's posted since back in December of 2024. Da'Marquis Hopkins was another key player, putting up ten points and eight rebounds.

Laurens is on a roll lately: they've won ten of their last 12 games, which provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 61.1 points over those games. As for Emerald, they dropped their record down to 7-15 with the loss, which was their eighth straight on the road.

Laurens does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Emerald, they didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 93-52 defeat against Wren on the 10th.
