Given their disadvantage in the MaxPreps state rankings, Independence should expect quite the challenge on Friday. They will challenge North Panola on the road at 7:00 PM. Expect the scorekeeper to be kept busy: if their previous games are any indication, Independence and North Panola will really light up the scoreboard.
Independence had a rough outing against North Pontotoc two weeks ago, but a little bit of home cooking seems to have fixed things right up. Independence took the matchup and then some with a 61-15 win last Friday over Strayhorn. The team accrued the bulk of their points in the first half (55) and coasted on those for the victory.
Meanwhile, North Panola put the finishing touches on their 4th blowout victory of the season. They were fully in charge, breezing past Mitchell 46-0. The game was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 38-0.
Their wins bumped North Panola to 4-1 and Independence to 3-3. In their victory, Independence relied heavily on senior R.J. Wilson, who rushed for 239 yards and 3 touchdowns. North Panola will need to find a way to minimize his impact if they want to win.
