The Monroe Vikings will venture away from home to take on the Sylmar Spartans at 3:00 p.m. on Monday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
On Friday, Monroe made easy work of Canoga Park and carried off a 20-12 win. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Vikings.
Meanwhile, Sylmar waltzed into their contest on Friday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They blew past the Wolves 18-2.
Cynthia Valadez and Analee Morales made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Valadez tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. Meanwhile, Morales pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Valadez has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in ten consecutive appearances. At bat, Valadez went 1-for-2 with one run, one double, and one RBI, while Morales went a perfect 1-for-1 with one triple and one RBI.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Katherine Godoy, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, four runs, and two stolen bases. Those four runs gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Maya Salceda, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one triple.
Sylmar kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They are 10-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Sylmar's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 10-7. The road wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 16.8 runs over those games. As for Monroe, their record is now 5-8.
Monroe suffered a grim 17-5 defeat to Sylmar in their previous meeting back in April. Can the Vikings avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
