Douglas is 8-2 against Spanish Springs since May of 2023 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Tigers will venture away from home to face off against the Cougars at 3:45 p.m. One thing working in Douglas' favor is that they have posted at least ten runs in their last three contests.
While Douglas' victory against McQueen wasn't quite the blowout it was the last time the pair played, they still came out on top. The Tigers sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 10-9 win over the Lancers on Tuesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Tigers have posted against the Lancers since April 6, 2023.
Annie Hill was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Ava Gildea, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI and one double.
Douglas was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .467. They are 14-1 when they post a batting average of .375 or better.
Meanwhile, after some red-hot attacks at the plate in their last three matches, Spanish Springs finally came back down to earth on Tuesday. They fell 5-1 to Damonte Ranch. The Cougars' defeat signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.
Spanish Springs saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Joey Jacobs, who went 1-for-3 with two stolen bases and one RBI. Jacobs has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last five times she's played.
Douglas is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last ten games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.0 runs over those games. As for Spanish Springs, their loss dropped their record down to 19-8-1.
Fans could be in store for some top-tier slugging on Thursday. Douglas hasn't had any problems when it comes to power this season, having averaged 0.8 home runs per game. However, it's not like Spanish Springs struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 0.5 home runs. With so much power on both teams, it'll be down to the pitchers to keep the mound locked down.
Douglas couldn't quite get it done against Spanish Springs in their previous matchup on April 1st as they fell 7-3. Can the Tigers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
