On Thursday, Cristo Rey St. Martin was beaten by Willows Academy 89-47. While losing is never fun, the CRSM can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois basketball rankings (they are ranked 549th, while the Eagles are ranked 238th).
Cristo Rey St. Martin might have lost, but man, Alexy Chapa was a machine: she shot 5-for-9 from beyond the arc and dropped a double-double on 35 points and ten rebounds. That was a full 74.5% of Cristo Rey St. Martin's points, marking the sixth time in a row she's posted more than a third of the team's points.
Meanwhile, Schaumburg Christian was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They fell 43-31 to Christian Life. That's two games in a row now that the Conquerors have lost by exactly 12 points.
Cristo Rey St. Martin will have to contain Stephanie Tenuto as she made an impact in Schaumburg Christian's last game. She earned 15 points in addition to seven boards and three steals. Tenuto is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 28 games she's played dating back to last season.
This is the second loss in a row for Cristo Rey St. Martin and nudges their season record down to 3-5. As for Schaumburg Christian, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-7.
Rebounding is likely to be a big factor in this contest: Cristo Rey St. Martin has been smashing the glass this season, having averaged 20 rebounds per game. However, it's not like Schaumburg Christian struggles in that department as they've been averaging 39 boards. With both teams battling to corral missed shots, we'll see if one team can grab an edge.
