The Founders Classical Academy Hoplites will head out to square off against the New Braunfels Thunder Homeschool at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Each of these teams will be battling to keep a three-game winning streak alive.
Last Tuesday, Founders Classical Academy earned an 8-4 win over IDEA Monterrey Park College Prep.
Luke McCaw was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he struck out six batters over three innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off only two hits. McCaw was also big at the plate, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on John Spalding, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-2. Spalding is crushing it when it comes to stolen bases: he's snagged at least one every time he's taken the field this season. Logan Blumhoff was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-1.
Founders Classical Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .526. That was just more of the same: they've now posted an OBP of .524 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, New Braunfels Thunder was not the first on the board last Tuesday, but they got there more often. They were the clear victors by a 9-3 margin over San Marcos Academy. The result was nothing new for the Homeschool, who have now won seven contests by six runs or more so far this season.
Justin Rusick was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing two bases while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Paxton Lerma, who went 1-for-4 with one triple and two RBI.
New Braunfels Thunder pushed their record up to 11-6-1 with the victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those road wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.3 runs on average over those games. As for Founders Classical Academy, their record is now 3-0.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Friday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Founders Classical Academy has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.3 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like New Braunfels Thunder struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.4 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
