The Arlington Colts will head out on the road to take on the Grand Prairie Gophers at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Arlington's pitching crew has only allowed four runs per game this season, so Grand Prairie's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
Arlington is probably headed into the game with a chip on their shoulder considering Lone Star just ended the team's seven-game winning streak on Saturday. They came up short against the Rangers, falling 8-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest loss the Colts have suffered since March 1st.
Yadir Gamez put in work no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-low in walks (zero). He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one double and one RBI.
In other pitching news, Arlington got a good showing from Mason Hensley, who pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Hensley has been consistent : he hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
Gamez wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Corbin Quiroz, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Grand Prairie, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Tuesday. They walked away with a 5-2 victory over Sam Houston on Friday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Gophers as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.
Jiovanni Alvarado spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on seven hits and racked up nine Ks.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Jaylen Garcia, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. Brandon Peoples also deserves some recognition as he scored his first run of the season.
Grand Prairie's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-9 and their overall record up to 4-18. As for Arlington, their record now sits at 13-11.
Arlington took their win against Grand Prairie when the teams last played back in March of 2024 by a conclusive 13-0 score. Will the Colts repeat their success, or do the Gophers have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
