Basketball Recap: Northern Virginia HomeSchool Takes a Loss

On Friday, the Northern Virginia HomeSchool Centurions ended up a good deal behind the Saint John Paul the Great Catholic Wolves and lost 57-41.

Leading Saint John Paul the Great Catholic to victory were Nina Velandria and Azel Tayamen. Velandria went 8 for 18 to rack up 21 points and five steals, while Tayamen went 6 of 13 en route to 18 points along with seven rebounds and four steals. Velandria continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last five games she's played. Maggie Dake also deserves some recognition as she posted her first block of the season.

Northern Virginia HomeSchool has been struggling recently as they've lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-12 record this season. As for Saint John Paul the Great Catholic, their victory bumped their record up to 5-10.

Coming up, Northern Virginia HomeSchool won't have much time to rest: their next match is against Spirit HomeSchool at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday. Spirit HomeSchool will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something Northern Virginia HomeSchool surely won't give up without a fight. As for Saint John Paul the Great Catholic, they will venture away from home to take on Saint Gertrude at 5:30 p.m. on Monday.
