Wesley Chapel is 1-9 against Land O' Lakes since March of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Wesley Chapel Wildcats will head out on the road to face off against the Land O' Lakes Gators at 7:30 p.m. Wesley Chapel is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.4 runs per game this season.
Last Thursday, Wesley Chapel got the win against Pasco by a conclusive 14-3. The result was nothing new for the Wildcats, who have now won three matches by six runs or more so far this season.
Jazmin Hill spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three runs (all of which were unearned) on four hits.
At the plate, Kendall McCants was a standout: she went 2-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Juliana Martin also deserves some recognition as she stole her first stolen base of the season.
Wesley Chapel always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .561. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pasco only posted an OBP of .250.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Land O' Lakes, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Thursday. They were the clear victor by an 8-1 margin over Sumner on Friday. The victory was some much needed relief for the Gators as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Land O' Lakes also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Taliah Murria gave up a run (which was unearned) on three hits and racked up 15 Ks. With that strong performance, Murria is now averaging an impressive 6.8 strikeouts per game.
On the hitting side, Jaila Mitchell was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in hits (four). Another player making a difference was Katelynne Jackson, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Land O' Lakes' win was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 2-3. A key ingredient in that success has been their performance when it comes to hits: they averaged an imposing 9.6 hits in those games compared to only 4.33 in the others. As for Wesley Chapel, they now have a winning record of 3-2.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Wesley Chapel has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 10.8 hits per game. However, it's not like Land O' Lakes struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 3.6 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Wesley Chapel suffered a grim 11-1 defeat to Land O' Lakes in their previous matchup back in March of 2024. Can Wesley Chapel avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
