Basketball Recap: Mountain View Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Marlene Carrillo and Ellie Roberts

Mountain View was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their third straight defeat. They might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting the Loveland Red Wolves an easy 67-47 win. The Mountain Lions were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Red Wolves apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in February.

Mountain View's defeat shouldn't obscure the performances of Ellie Roberts, who went 9 of 13 en route to 20 points and six rebounds, and Marlene Carrillo, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 17 boards. With that strong performance, Carrillo is now averaging an impressive 8.1 rebounds per game.

Even though they lost, Mountain View smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least 11 offensive rebounds in four consecutive matches.

Loveland found their leader in sophomore Courtlyn Yaussi, who went 14 of 30 on her way to 34 points along with six assists and five steals. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Yaussi has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Young, who posted seven points in addition to 11 boards and three steals.

Mountain View's loss dropped their record down to 3-5. As for Loveland, the victory made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 5-3.

Mountain View will get a bit of extra time to process the defeat as their next game is a ways off. They'll take on Thompson Valley at 6:00 p.m. on January 7, 2025. Thompson Valley's defense has only allowed 22.9 points per game this season, so Mountain View's offense will have their work cut out for them. Loveland also won't see the court for a while: their next contest is against Greeley Central at 11:30 a.m. on January 4, 2025.
