Basketball Recap: Holly Hill Academy Takes a Loss

Holly Hill Academy lost against Calhoun Academy on January 13th and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Wednesday. The Holly Hill Academy Raiders took a hard 67-48 fall against the Calhoun Academy Cavaliers. While losing is never fun, the Raiders can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 280th, while the Cavaliers are ranked 139th).

Despite the loss, Holly Hill Academy still got an impressive performance from Jody Gillam, who went 9 of 18 on his way to 20 points in addition to six assists and three steals. Gillam has been hot, having posted two or more steals the last five times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Mason Connor, who posted eight points.

Calhoun Academy got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Nick Lindsay out in front who went 8 for 18 en route to 21 points along with eight boards and four steals. Lindsay continues to improve, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Chase Strickland was another key player, dropping a double-double on 12 points and ten rebounds.

This is the second loss in a row for Holly Hill Academy and nudges their season record down to 4-10. As for Calhoun Academy, the win made it two in a row for them and bumps their season record up to 17-4.

Holly Hill Academy won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Faith Christian at 7:15 p.m. on Thursday. Holly Hill Academy is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 52.1 points per game this season. As for Calhoun Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against Orangeburg Prep at 7:45 p.m. on Friday. Orangeburg Prep knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 13 contests -- so hopefully Calhoun Academy likes a good challenge.
