Baseball Recap: Hollister Sets Scoring Season-High Against Carmel

Winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Hollister). They walked away with a 12-9 victory over the Carmel Padres on Thursday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Haybalers needed considering they were shut out in their previous matchup.

Evan Mendoza was a standout: he scored a run while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Gavin Rodriguez, who scored two runs while going 3-for-5.

Hollister always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

Hollister moved to 8-5 with that win, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Carmel, their loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 9-3.

Hollister and Carmel should be looking forward to their upcoming games as both have a sizable advantage in the MaxPreps California Rankings. The Haybalers will take on Piedmont Hills at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday with a big rank advantage (199 vs. 604). Meanwhile, Carmel (ranked 184th) will meet Salinas (ranked 538th) at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
