Basic had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They blew past the Faith Lutheran Crusaders 12-5 on Saturday. The Wolves might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine contests by six runs or more this season.
Matthew Kelley made a splash while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, tossing three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he posted two strikeouts, the most he's had since back in March. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
In other batting news, Basic got a massive performance out of Troy Southisene, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That's the most hits Southisene has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Tate Southisene, who got on base in four of his five plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.
Basic always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Faith Lutheran only posted an OBP of .364.
Basic is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven games. That's provided a nice bump to their 22-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.9 runs over those games. As for Faith Lutheran, their defeat dropped their record down to 21-16.
