Briarwood Academy and Piedmont Academy are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2017, but not for long. The Briarwood Academy Buccaneers will head out on the road to challenge the Piedmont Academy Cougars at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. Briarwood Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five contests -- so hopefully Piedmont Academy likes a good challenge.
Briarwood Academy can now show off ten landslide victories after their most recent match on Friday. They breezed by Westminster Christian Academy on the road to the tune of 59-27. Given Briarwood Academy's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 83rd, while Westminster Christian Academy is ranked 416th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Briarwood Academy's victory was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Kennedy Mosley, who dropped a double-double on 11 points and 12 rebounds. Mosley hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for six straight games. Aubrey Branan was another key contributor, scoring 16 points along with six rebounds.
Piedmont Academy posted their biggest win yet this season on Saturday. They blew past Loganville Christian Academy 55-28 at home.
Marissa Holder was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 17 points and 17 rebounds. She hasn't dropped below eight rebounds for 13 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Sarah Ellen Stroud, who scored ten points along with five assists and five steals.
Briarwood Academy's victory bumped their record up to 12-1. As for Piedmont Academy, the win got them back to even at 7-7.
Friday's match will pit two of the most dominant players against one another: Mosley and Holder. Mosley has been dynamite this season: she has averaged 16.8 points, 3.7 steals, and 10.3 rebounds. For her part, Holder has averaged 21.4 points, 3.9 steals, and 11.6 rebounds.
Briarwood Academy took a serious blow against Piedmont Academy in their previous matchup back in February of 2023, falling 55-27. Can Briarwood Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
