After a string of four wins, The South View Tigers''s good fortune finally ran out on Friday. They took a 23-12 hit to the loss column at the hands of Cape Fear. Having soared to a lofty 62 points in the game before, South View couldn't push the score so high this time.
Cape Fear's win was a true team effort, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was King Faison, who rushed for 129 yards on only 13 carries. Faison was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 57 yards. Another player making a difference was Jeremiah Melvin, who picked up 80 receiving yards and two touchdowns.
Cape Fear's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB four times. Leading the way was Marquan Footman and his two sacks.
Special teams played a big role in the game for Cape Fear, adding 11 points to the final score. All those points came courtesy of Francisco Rodriguez: he added nine points with three field goals, and another two kicking extra points.
South View's defeat dropped their record down to 7-2. As for Cape Fear, their victory was their seventh straight at home (dating back to last season), bumping their overall record up to 7-2.
South View will take on Jack Britt at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Cape Fear, they will head out on the road to face off against Gray's Creek at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Gray's Creek will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps North Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 211th, while Cape Fear is ranked 69th).
