Baseball Recap: Madison Takes a Loss

Madison dropped their record down to 11-5 on Saturday, which also ended the team's three-game streak of wins. They lost 12-1 to the Talawanda Brave. Having soared to a lofty ten runs in the game before, the Mohawks couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Talawanda, the win snapped their losing streak at seven games and leaves them with a 11-16 record. They might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won ten contests by six runs or more this season.

For Talawanda's part, Jack Stigall tossed a big game, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts Stigall has posted since back in April.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Adam Achterman, who went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run. He has become a key player for Talawanda: the team is undefeated when he posts at least three RBI, but 7-16 otherwise. Jericho Fletcher was another key player, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

Looking ahead, Madison will square off against Emmanuel Christian Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Talawanda, they will face off against St. Xavier at 5:00 a.m. on Monday.
