Gridley and Orland are an even 5-5 against one another since April of 2019, but likely not for long. The Bulldogs will take on the Trojans at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Gridley is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 13.3 runs per game this season.
Gridley will head out to face Orland after giving up their first home loss of the season on Thursday. The Bulldogs came up short against Las Plumas, falling 14-2. Having soared to a lofty 11 runs in the game before, the Bulldogs couldn't push the score so high this time.
Delanie Cloyd was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run and one double.
Meanwhile, Orland waltzed into their matchup on Wednesday with four straight wins... but they left with five. They put the hurt on the Lions with a sharp 8-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Trojans, who have now won five games by six runs or more so far this season.
Dottie Davis and Kiera McKenzie were a major factor while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Davis pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, McKenzie struck out nine batters over five innings while giving up just two earned runs off five hits. At the plate, Davis scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-3, while McKenzie scored two runs while going 3-for-3. Those two runs gave McKenzie a new career-high.
In other batting news, Gracie Cutshall was excellent, scoring two runs while going 2-for-3.
Orland kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Live Oak only managed six hits.
Orland's record now sits at 10-2. As for Gridley, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-3.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Gridley has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 14.1 hits per game. However, it's not like Orland struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Gridley was able to grind out a solid win over Orland when the teams last played back in May of 2024, winning 7-3. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Bulldogs since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
