The Montour Spartans had already won three in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.7 points), and they went ahead and made it four on Friday. They strolled past Quaker Valley with points to spare, taking the game 68-53. Given Montour's advantage in MaxPreps' Pennsylvania basketball rankings (they are ranked 16th, while Quaker Valley is ranked 275th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Montour got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Jake Wolfe out in front who scored 19 points along with two steals. Wolfe hasn't dropped below 19 points for eight straight games. Another player making a difference was Ama tening Sow, who dropped a double-double on 16 points and 14 rebounds.
Montour's lineup was just a bit different on Friday as James Bundridge got a bit more time on the court (24 vs. his season average of 6.47). Bundridge made the most of the opportunity, scoring seven points along with five rebounds. A few more games like that and he might be seeing even more time going forward.
Despite the loss, Quaker Valley still got an impressive performance from Joey Coyle, who scored 25 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Zach Washington was another key contributor, scoring 14 points.
Montour's victory was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-3. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.0 points per game. As for Quaker Valley, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-11.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Montour will challenge Obama Academy of International Studies at 7:30 p.m. on Monday.
