The Crystal River Pirates's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their fifth straight loss. They took a serious blow against Springstead, falling 69-23. Crystal River has struggled against Springstead recently, as their game on Friday was their fifth consecutive lost matchup.
Aidian Cordero was Crystal River's leading scorer, having posted nine points.
Lillia Velazquez held things down on the boards with eight rebounds.
Malanie Francis was her usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 23 points and 15 rebounds for Springstead. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Francis has scored all season. Another player making a difference was J'ziyah Munford, who scored 11 points along with seven assists and four steals.
Crystal River's defeat was their third straight at home, which bumped their record down to 4-6. Those losses could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 27.0 points per game. As for Springstead, the victory (which was their eighth in a row) raised their record to 12-3.
Crystal River will head out on the road to square off against Citrus at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Citrus focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up eight on Friday. As for Springstead, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Central at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Central comes in still looking for their first win of the season.
