Monarch hasn't had much luck against Coral Springs Charter recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Monarch Knights will look to defend their home field against the Coral Springs Charter Panthers at 4:00 p.m. Monarch is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 10 runs per game this season.
Monarch took a 14-run defeat the last time they faced off against Coral Glades, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Monarch won by a run and slipped past Coral Glades 7-6.
Mia Macaione spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits.
At the plate, Sammie Rice was excellent, going 2-for-4 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was Mylie Carlson, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Meanwhile, Coral Springs Charter beat North Fort Myers 5-1 on Saturday. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Panthers.
Courtney Wahlbrink made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching four innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. She has been consistent : she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season. She was also big at the plate, scoring a run while going 2-for-3. That run was her first of the season.
Wahlbrink wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Addi Michel, who scored a run while going 2-for-3.
Coral Springs Charter's victory was their 11th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 5-1. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.6 runs on average over those games. As for Monarch, they now have a winning record of 4-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Monday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Monarch has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 6.9 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Coral Springs Charter struggles in that department as they've been averaging 11.3 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Monarch suffered a grim 6-0 defeat to Coral Springs Charter in their previous meeting back in April of 2023. Will Monarch have more luck at home instead of on the road? Come back here after the game to get an analysis of the match and other softball content.
