The Hedgesville Eagles will square off against the Frankfort Falcons at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Hedgesville is coming into the contest hot, having won their last four games.
On Wednesday, Hedgesville got the win against GVCS Broadfording by a conclusive 13-6.
Mason Elliott was a major factor no matter where he played. On the mound, he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over four innings pitched. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted over his last 11 games.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Austin Manor, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Landon Pence, who went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double.
Hedgesville kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least nine hits in three consecutive matches.
Meanwhile, Frankfort faced Jefferson in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Wednesday. The Falcons took a 5-2 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Cougars. The Falcons' loss signaled the end of their seven-game winning streak.
Lanson Orndorf spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered just two earned (and three unearned) runs on four hits and racked up nine Ks.
At the plate, Blake Jacobs made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Frankfort's defeat dropped their record down to 17-7. As for Hedgesville, their win bumped their record up to 17-8.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Hedgesville has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 8.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Frankfort struggles in that department as they've been averaging an even more impressive 7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Hedgesville came up short against Frankfort in their previous matchup back in April, falling 5-0. Will the Eagles have more luck at home instead of on the road? Check MaxPreps after the match for a full breakdown of the game, commentary, and other baseball content.
