Salado and Taylor are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2018, but likely not for long. The Eagles will challenge the Ducks at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Salado gave up the first runs on Thursday, but they didn't let that get them down. They walked away with a 4-1 win over Lampasas. The victory was some much needed relief for the Eagles as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Owen Curtis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up nine Ks. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Salado's win was truly a team effort as four different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Brody Cole, who went 2-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
Meanwhile, it may have taken ten innings to finish the job, but Taylor ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Marble Falls, sneaking past 4-3.
Mario Aguero was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out seven over five innings pitched. Those seven strikeouts gave him a new career-high. He was also big at the plate, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs. Taylor is 3-1 when Aguero posts two or more runs, but 3-15-1 otherwise.
Taylor is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matchups. That's provided a massive bump to their 6-16-1 record this season. They've had to fight for that success though, as they only beat their opponents by an average of one runs across that stretch. As for Salado, their record is now 15-8-1.
Salado's speedy runners might be the difference in Tuesday's contest. The Eagles have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 3 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Taylor, though, as they've been averaging only 1 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Salado continue to outrun the ball?
