The Independent Panthers pushed their score all the way to 56 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Garden Plain by a score of 59-56. Independent was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Garden Plain apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in March of 2023.
Independent lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Jaylen Phillips-Grey, who scored 20 points. Sir Ryan Dennis was another key contributor, scoring nine points along with six steals and five assists.
This is the second loss in a row for Independent and nudges their season record down to 10-6. As for Garden Plain, their victory bumped their record up to 5-10.
Independent will head out on the road to square off against Chaparral at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Independent is facing Chaparral at the right time seeing as Chaparral is stuck on a four-game losing streak. As for Garden Plain, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Kingman at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Kansas (Kingman is ranked 197th, while Garden Plain is ranked 186th).
