The Cumby Trojans will head out on the road to face off against the Mart Panthers at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Cumby can finally bid farewell to their three-game losing streak thanks to their game on Friday. They blew past Clarksville, posting a 50-20 win at home. The victory was just what Cumby needed coming off of a 64-20 defeat in their prior match.
Cumby got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Chett Vaughan out in front who threw for 144 yards and three touchdowns, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Cumby also got a significant boost from Dakari Johnson, who ran away from the competition to the tune of 114 yards.
Meanwhile, Mart put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They breezed by Hubbard on the road to the tune of 72-6. Given Mart's advantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 246th, while Hubbard is ranked 1180th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Jd Bell continued his habit of posting crazy stat lines, rushing for 123 yards and three touchdowns on only 11 carries. Bell has been hot recently, having posted two or more rushing touchdowns the last three times he's played. Another player making a difference was Ethan Hocking, who gained 85 total yards and a touchdown.
Cumby's win bumped their record up to 3-7. As for Mart, their victory was their 13th straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 10-0.
Thursday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Cumby has been unstoppable on the ground this season, having averaged 192.5 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Mart struggles in that department as they've been even better at 307.5 per game. It's looking like Thursday's matchup might have some serious battles in the trenches.
